FSU drops first of the season

Florida State’s early-season issues with pitching and defense showed themselves again Friday night, and, this time, the Seminoles’ offense couldn’t quite muster enough to make up for them.

Freshman starter Brandon Leibrandt was chased after just 2 2/3 innings – which bookended a 54-minute rain-delay – and Florida International dealt the No. 8 Seminoles an 8-5 defeat in front of 4,292 at Dick Howser Stadium.

The result marks Florida State’s first loss of the season and FIU’s first win.
