One down, one to go

It took one trip through the lineup for Florida State to figure out how to hit Mark Appel.
Or perhaps, more appropriately, watch one of college baseball’s best pitchers lose his control as the floodgates opened.

FSU sent 12 runners to the plate in the fourth, and Appel issued a pair of bases-loaded walks and threw a wild pitch that brought in another run as the Seminoles routed Stanford 17-1 on Friday night in the first game of the Tallahassee Super Regional.

“I never, in my wildest dreams, imagined what happened tonight could happen,” FSU coach Mike Martin said. “We know that tomorrow it will be a different story.”
